The Liberal media....The News they want you to hear....and nothing else

This is something I have wanted to address for awhile now.
I am going to keep it short.

I am sure many of you are aware of the comments made by Rush Limbaugh regarding a Georgetown University student who testified before Congress regarding the recent contraception debate.

While Limbaugh is an influential Conservative radio show host, he does not represent the official voice of the Republican Party.

Yes, he used words that I do not think he should have used. But what happened to our freedom of speech?

The liberal media have spun this into something they can use to attack the Republican Party. Not taking into account that Limbaugh's views are not the views of the party.

While I am sure most of you are at least aware of this controversy, I was wondering if you had ever heard  Bill Maher's comments on Sarah Palin.

Imagine if this was Rush Limbaugh saying this about Michelle Obama....Republicans would never hear the end of it.
And while President Obama will condemn Limbaugh for his comments, He would not want to condemn Maher for his, especially after recently receiving a small donation towards his reelection campaign from Maher....for the amount of $1,000,000.

Problems in the Middle East?...quick, call America

America differs from the other countries of this world. I am a believer in American Exceptionalism. The countless things that make this Country great are endless and is not the subject of this post. I want to focus in on one of the things America has become quite fond of doing…policing the world.
America’s fondness of liberty goes back hundreds of years, specifically 1776, when we threw off the chains of an imperialist nation and declared our independence. Since then there has been a special place in the hearts of Americans for those peoples who are oppressed. We have long sympathized with the revolutionary, taking on the role of protectors of the weak.
America has contributed to multinational military forces in both Afghanistan and Iraq in the last ten years. Along with our recent contribution of military support in Libya.
I want to look at one word more closely…”multinational”
These military forces under the direction of NATO are composed of troops from member nations. However, not all contributions are equal. The bulk of these “multinational” forces are American troops, and subsequently, bankrolled primarily with our tax dollars.
Not only does the presence of our troops in the Middle East financially hurt our Country, they damage our country’s image in the Muslim world.
This brings me to my main talking point.
Two major things are taking place in the Middle East as we speak. The revolution taking place against the tyrannical rule of the Assad regime in Syria, and the growing threat of a nuclear Iran.
Civilians are being killed in the streets of Syria by a government that accuses the West of stirring up trouble. The Assad regime has been condemned not only by the West, but it has been condemned by and removed from the Arab League.
Instinctively, America sympathizes with the rebels. Not only do we recall our own war of independence. But the rebels on the ground have called for the United States to come to their aid.
Similarly with the growing issue of a nuclear Iran. Regional powers such as Saudi Arabia and Israel are fearful of an Iran armed with nuclear weapons. There have been talks of an American strike against Iranian facilities.
My Question is….why us?
Yes I think America is the greatest country on earth. But people need to remember one important thing…We Are Broke
We cannot afford to initiate new conflicts in Syria or Iran. There are politicians in both political parties that are quick to call for American aid to the Syrian rebels, or for action against Iran. But who is going to pay for it?
We owe people money, how can we continue to spend money that we simply do not have?
I would like to see a Middle Eastern solution to a Middle East problem. Why would we spend our money and put our troops in harm’s way, when our other exploits in the Arab world have turned an entire region against us.
What the United States needs to be doing is urging regional powers to alleviate problems in their corner of the world. Stable, moderate countries such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Israel, need to be encouraged to handle situations first. Let the Arab League send in a peace keeping force. Western countries engaged in armed conflict in Muslim countries creates to many problems.

The Mitt Romney Issue

If you have been following the GOP presidential primaries, as I would think many of you have, you are aware of the dilemma currently confronting the party. We are having a little trouble deciding who will run as the Republican presidential candidate in November. There is a simple reason, but not a simple solution for this problem. For the past few years there has been a growing split within the Republican party. The divide between social and fiscal conservatives continues to grow. There is not a clear divide, and not even complete separation between the two camps, but unless they can come together this November, we are surely looking at four more years of a Democratic administration.

Hypothetically speaking, this primary season should have been an easy one for Mitt Romney. He has run a presidential campaign before, he has name recognition, and has been the front runner from early on. Besides those things he has what is necessary to run a successful campaign. He has money...a lot of money.

Why then has the Republican Party not selected their candidate?

Because the political power and resolve of the socially conservative voting bloc is being overlooked by the party establishment in Washington. They have become out of touch with the base of the Republican Party.

Its not that the base of the Republican Party does not care that Mitt Romney can run a company, and that he can save Olympic games, and he can win an election as a Republican in what is arguably one of the most blue states in the country.
Its that they will only care about those things once they are convinced that he is a genuine conservative. And for  many voters, their minds have already been made up. The flip-flopping on important social policy questions that Mitt Romney has done has cast a permanent doubt on whether he truly shares the conservative values that they hold. His authoring of Romneycare is too similar to Obamacare for comfort. And his seemingly daily statements about how rich he his just reinforces how out of touch he is with the average American. Many Republicans want a president that they can identify with. Someone who has gone through the troubles they go through, and someone they know will be their greatest advocate in Washington.

While Mitt Romney has been able to win many states primaries, I would make the argument that this is because of his large bank account and his "perceived" front runner status. He can outspend any of his opponents and buy enough commercials bashing his fellow Republicans that many voters feel like their is no one else that they can vote for.

This long primary season is not good for the Party's image. While there are some who believe it makes a candidate "stronger", I believe it makes a candidate easier to attack in November.
Mitt Romney is the establishment candidate, the head Republicans would be pleased if he was the party's nominee in the general election.
But what the Party needs to stop doing is trying to shove Mitt Romney down the throat of voters. Even though I believe the Republican base would never go so far as to vote for a Democrat, I do believe that there are many who would rather stay home then go out and vote for someone they obviously do not like.

Lay off the Catholic Church

I have been meaning to comment on this subject for quite some time now. After reading yet another article yesterday that cast the Roman Catholic Church in a negative light I thought it this is the right time to do it.

Yesterday an article was released condemning a Catholic Church in Maryland for refusing to allow an openly gay congregant from participating in communion at her mothers funeral. The liberal media likes to paint a mean picture of the Catholic Church. One of intolerance and hypocrisy that allows sexual abuse to run rampant. While I was scrolling through the comments that were posted about this specific article there was a consistent pattern of bashing the Church and the assertion that this incident was a violation of gay rights. But people need to step back for a moment and think. Even if you are a supporter of gay marriage, and equal rights for members of the LGBT community, you have to realize that this had nothing to do with gay rights. The Catholic Church has the right as a private entity to refuse giving sacraments to people they believe are living in sin. This woman who has been a lifelong practicing Catholic, should have been aware of the rules of her church. While many readers agreed that it was wrong of the parish priest to make an example out of her at this particular mass, I would argue that it was wrong of her to try and challenge the rule at this particular time. Liberals are often strong believers in the separations of church and state. That idea cannot only be applied when it is convenient for them. Just because society has become more tolerant of homosexuality it does not mean we can force a Church that is thousands of years old to change. Hypothetically speaking, if we were to force all Jewish delis to serve pork, because some people like pork, it would be a blatant violation of their freedom of religion. That applies to all religions across the board. The only reason the media gets away with demonizing the Catholic Church is because the public has become so desensitized to it.

There have been a few members of the Catholic Church that have done some really terrible things. But lots of people commit atrocities, including clerical members of other churches. I prefer to think about some of the wonderful things the Catholic Church does for people. Feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and providing charitable services for people all over the world.

So instead of bashing the entire Catholic Church for something that an incredibly small percentage of its   1.2 billion members have committed. Pray for the victims, and for their families, and pray that the Church can continue its mission of reaching out to those who need help. And if you really cannot tolerate the Catholic Church, no one is forcing you to be a member.
